Five Spice Pork Recipes

Ingredients :

450 g pork chops, boned

60 ml oil

1 small piece fresh ginger, peeled

5 ml Szechwan or black peppercorns

5 ml five spice powder

140 ml dry sherry

280 ml light stock

60 ml honey

4 spring or green onions, cut in large pieces

60 g bamboo shoots, shredded

1 mango, peeled and sliced

Method :
  1. Heat the oil in a large frying pan or wok and add the ginger.
  2. Lower the chops into the hot oil and cook them quickly to brown.
  3. Remove the meat and set aside.
  4. Add peppercorns and fry 2 minutes.
  5. Add five spice powder, sherry, stock, honey and bring to the boil.
  6. Return the pork chops to the pan or wok, cover and simmer over low heat for 40 minutes or until the pork is tender.
  7. About 4 minutes before the end of cooking time add onions, bamboo shoots and mango.
  8. Remove the ginger before serving with rice or crisp noodles.

Serves 4 - 6
