Pea and Ham Soup Recipes

Ingredients :

500g ham or bacon bones

1 liter water

185g split peas

1 large onion, chopped

2 sticks of celery, chopped

1 large carrot, chopped

1 small parsnip, chopped

ground black pepper

1/2 tsp mixed dried herbs

Method :
  1. Place all the ingredients in a large saucepan.
  2. Bring to the boil.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer until peas are soft - 1-2 hours.
  4. While simmering, skim away any scum that rises to the surface.
  5. Remove and discard the bones.
  6. Serve soup hot with crusty wholemeal bread.

Serves 4
